On October 10, 2024, the Annual Employment Awards Event at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland, brought together a community united in celebration—honoring the achievements of Prince Georgians with disabilities, the dedicated individuals who support them, and the businesses that empower them to achieve their dreams.
Held annually in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Prince George’s Provider Council (Provider Council) honors the winners of its Employment Awards. This annual event, now in its 10th year, raises awareness of the inclusion and contributions of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life along with the professionals and employers that support them. Each honoree plays a vital role in ensuring that our community is inclusive for all, and each employee honored is an inspiration for others seeking employment in their communities. More
Transitioning Youth Resource Fair Fall 2024
On October 19, 2024, Prince George’s Community College became a hub of hope and opportunity as it hosted the annual Transitioning Youth Resource Fair. This event brought together 71 students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, alongside 50 community resource organizations. The Fair was designed to empower families with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the often-challenging transition from high school to adulthood.

As students prepare to leave the familiar environments of school, they encounter significant changes in their daily routines and support systems. Recognizing these challenges, Prince George’s County Public Schools, Department of Special Education and the Prince George’s Provider Council collaborate annually to facilitate this important event. The Prince George’s Provider Council envisions a community that empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, inclusive lives in the community of their choice through the shared responsibilities of public and private partnerships.
COLLABORATE
We work in partnership with our members to increase communication and sharing of Best Practices between Providers of a wide range of supports for people with intellectual/ developmental disabilities in Prince George’s County.
Collectively our membership employs thousands of people, including a large cadre of Direct Support Professionals who are responsible for the direct day-to-day support services for more than 2,800 Prince George’s County residents daily. Services range from employment support to day activities to residential support to personal care and case management.
The Provider Council is extremely active and involved in a host of activities that contribute to member agencies having the resources they need to improve supports to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and enhance the skills and quality of Direct Support Professionals. Our efforts promote the visibility of the provider community and strengthen the infrastructure of Prince George’s County system of support. We believe we must ensure that our services are available to those who need them and that we are seeking to continuously improve the quality of services in our network.
MISSION:
To advocate, collaborate, and educate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
EDUCATE
We educate the community on the work we all do in support of individuals with intellectual/ developmental disabilities. By using a collaborative approach, we also coordinate training and distribute resources on the issues of service to the community.
ADVOCATE
We advocate to ensure people with intellectual/developmental disabilities living and working in Prince George’s County have the support system they need to be successful and lead a meaningful life including securing sufficient funding to support services by our Providers.
COMMUNITY
We strive to increase the opportunities for those we support to live meaningful lives in the communities of their choice, where they can fully participate in the community activities they choose. We believe that true community inclusion occurs when everyone can work and play side by side regardless of their capabilities.
