Building Connections

Building Connections Between Candidates and the Disability Community

On June 8, 2026, the Disability Meet & Greet brought together County Council candidates and community members at the Prince George’s Community College Performing Arts Center for an evening of connection, conversation, and civic
engagement.

Designed to ensure that residents with disabilities, their families, caregivers, providers, and advocates have a voice in the electoral process, the event provided attendees with an opportunity to connect directly with candidates seeking election to the Prince George’s County Council and discuss issues that matter most to the disability community.

Residents and Providers meet with Candidates

The event was made possible through a collaborative partnership between Prince George’s County Department of Family Services, The Arc Prince George’s County, the Commission for Individuals with Disabilities, and the Prince George’s Provider Council.

Residents meet At-Large Candidates

The response was strong, with 92 residents and 24 County Council candidates in attendance; representing approximately 64% of all candidates in the race. The impressive candidate participation reflected a shared commitment to listening to and engaging with individuals with disabilities and their support networks

The Provider Council is proud to have partnered in this important effort to promote inclusion, accessibility, and meaningful community engagement. By creating opportunities for direct dialogue between candidates and constituents, events like this help ensure that the voices of individuals with disabilities are represented in conversations about the future of Prince George’s County.
